For Those New To Tarot (or My Readings)

Tarot Q&A

Q: I’ve never had a tarot reading before. What if something bad comes up?

A: I suppose when you say “bad”, you’re thinking of specific cards (IE: Death, The Devil, or The Tower). To which I’d inform you that those cards aren’t necessarily as scary as they seem. They speak of transformation (Death), temptations (The Devil), and change (The Tower).

And those meanings can be slightly skewed depending on the cards that come up in the rest of your reading (for instance, I once had The Devil indicate in a reading that someone had a wicked sense of humor).

Not only that, but if difficult times were on the horizon for you, wouldn’t you rather have a heads up? Which leads us to….

Q: Do you do predictions?

A: Yes and no. Let me explain. I don’t believe in a predestined fate. I believe the choices you make effect whatever situation you may happen to be in (for better or for worse). And that belief of course flavors the way in which I read tarot. That’s why so many of my spreads focus on picking a new path (Good Ass Reading), or how to make the best of a shitty situation you’re already in the middle of (Hydrogen & Stupidity).

So yes, I’ll tell you what’s coming at you, but I’ll also tell you how to dodge it if you want me to.

Q: What exactly can I ask the tarot?

A: Literally anything. Whether or not it’ll give you a concise answer or not is up to the cards, really. And different readers will have different boundaries when it comes to what you can ask (I, for example, refuse to answer questions about health and legal issues).

But the cards themselves, you can ask anything.

Happy Leo Season!

Holy Shit,It's LeoSeason

In 25 days, I will be 26 years old.

I’m approaching this birthday after two months of a near constant shit-storm. We had everything from a washing machine break, to my mom’s boss selling the company without warning (so she may not have that job soon), Mamaw’s health problems (she’s much better now!), and yesterday, my dad had dental surgery for an infection in his tooth that could have killed him easily.

But through all of this, I learned something very important.

Wednesday Addams Day (+ News)

Wednesday Addam's Day

Let’s start this post off with a real quick update: Mamaw has surgery scheduled for Wednesday the 20th. She’ll need someone with her for 24 hours after that, which means I’ll be back over there Wednesday and hopefully home on Friday.

I’d like to thank all of you for being so wonderfully understanding while all this has been going on, and also for all the well wishes. This is the longest I’ve ever had to shut down shop and I was really worried about it. But y’all have been wonderful.

Which leads us to our first bit of news: I’m opening the shop for a week! It’ll have to be closed after Mamaw’s surgery, of course, but for a week before that, you can come get your cards read.

Not only that, there’s a new reading option you can take advantage of:

Coming Home (#CancerSeason)

Thoughts On_

I’m gonna be real honest with y’all–I just don’t know.

I did a mini tarot reading for my newsletter subscribers to help them tackle this month’s vibes. The card I pulled for this month is The Fool, and OH GOD was that appropriate.

Everywhere I look, changes are either already occurring or are being planned. It seems as though up is down and left is right and we’re just supposed to roll with that.

I had this whole big blog post planned out on this month’s overall feel and…I just don’t have it in me. I plan on being home for the entirety of this week, but who really knows at this point?

Which brings me to:

July's Mantra

Make sure to take care of yourself this month. Because July doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. Swim against the current when you must. When you get tired, allow yourself to float. But don’t let yourself sink.

What changes has July brought to you thus far? Are you looking after yourself? Drop me a comment and let me know.

New Moon in Cancer

Cancer

I’m just dropping in real quick to remind y’all of the New Moon in Cancer coming up on the 4th of July.

Any time there’s a moon in Cancer, it’s a good time to focus on self care. This Moon in Cancer feels particularly fortuitous because it comes right after Mars Retrograde, when we could all use a little TLC.

Self Care Ideas For This Moon:

Soak. Take a bath. Add your favorite oils and water/skin-safe crystals to it. Add flowers. Have a glass of wine. Put on some Erykah Badu and justย  f l o a t.

Meditate. Take a second to just be in the moment and breathe. Let the edges of your skin and the boundaries of your body blend seamlessly with the fabric of the Universe.

Use a Fave. That tea/lotion/lipstick/bath bomb/whatever you’ve been saving for a “special occasion”? Use it. You survived Mars retrograde. That’s a special occasion. You’re still breathing. That’s a special occasion.

Magick. For anything. Cleanse your home. Your bedroom. Make a calm-sleep pillow. If you cast circles, cast one and just bask in it.

Dream. If your dreams mean a lot to you, if they help you make sense of your inner, emotional world, let them be the way you make sense of what you’ve been through, and the guidepost for where to go now.

And that’s about it, y’all. Remember to take some time out for yourselves this July 4th. It’s been a hell of a couple of months, and you deserve to feel okay.

What are you planning for the New Moon? What are your favorite ways to practice self care? Let me know in the comments.
